Fire units responded to a reported compressor on fire early this morning at the far end of the Harris Steel yard on New Market Avenue. Arriving units were greeted with a large plume of black smoke coming from an industrial compressor on fire. The compressor is utilized to allow a protective coating to be applied to large steel beams. There was a severe exposure hazard due to the location of the fire which was up against the large glass windows of the building. Engine 5 arrived and went into deck gun operation and stretched an additional 1 3/4 hand line. Engine 6 located an access point and hand stretched 400 feet of five inch supply line to Engine 5. The County Hazmat team was special called to the scene. Extension to the structure was limited and all searches were negative. Chief Scalera in command.
