Fire department units responded to 11 Harmich Road at 05:59 hours for a reported fire in the building. Arriving fire units located fire in the main recycling building with moderate smoke showing from sides D and B. The building is protected by a dry pipe sprinkler system that was operational at the time of the fire. The working fire signal was transmitted and Engine 5 was ordered to drop a supply line from the hydrant at the head of the driveway. Truck 7 was setup on side D and put their master stream into operation along with one master stream from Engine 5. One engine from Plainfield fire was special called to the scene. Units continued to operate two master streams onto the body of fire deep within the mountains of garbage. Fire personnel made use of the companies heavy equipment to break down the pile and gain access to the fire. The fire was placed under control and turned back over to the company for cleanup and restoration of the sprinkler system. DC DelNegro in command.
