A number of South Plainfield Fire Department members served our country during World War 2. The Fire Department, like many other departments, struggled to maintain the level of service expected due to manpower shortages. As difficult at this was, they found the time to take a departmental photo and mail them to every member in the service during the war years. The photos below are copies of those photos sent to our brothers serving. It must have been encouraging to receive this small remembrance of home when you were so far away. We have looked and have been unable to locate any old unused cards or any that actually made the crossing overseas and returned. We would love to have one of those original postcards with the postmarks and the writing on the back for our archives. Take a look at your photo albums and storage boxes and see if you might have this precious item. We would love to hear from you and possibly obtain it or a copy.
