Labor Day has once again come and gone as the unofficial last day of summer went out with the traditional bang in South Plainfield. Fire department members spent the week cleaning and polishing the apparatus for the parade followed by the fireworks at dusk. The department also swore in two new members, one of which is the daughter of the present secretary of the department, Larry McGuiness. Members gathered at 18:00 hours to prepare for the duties associated with the fireworks shows. Task forces were established and put into place using numerous mutual aid companies to allow for protection throughout the Borough. We also remember former members Deputy Chief Mario Abbruzzese and Firefighter Vincent Scalera who both passed away this year.
