A late afternoon thunderstorm with lightning caused an attic fire early this Friday afternoon at a South Plainfield residence. The owner was at home at the time of the strike and utilized his dry powder extinguisher to control the flames racing through the attic. Arriving fire units stretched two lines to the class 5 structure and the fire was quickly controlled. An engine from Plainfield and a truck from Colonia responded on the 2nd alarm. Captain Bulla in command.
