Structure Fire - Harmich Road
Just before 11:30pm, the FD was called to the Republic Services Waste Management Center on Harmich Road for a fire in the building. Chief 50 arrived on scene, found heavy smoke emanating from the building, and transmitted the working fire signal. Engine 5 laid a 500-foot supply line from the hydrant at the street to the main fire building. A Blitzfire and the deck gun from Engine 5 were deployed for initial fire suppression. Truck 7 arrived and set up ladder operations in an attempt to extinguish the deep-seated fire in a large mound of trash. Two front-loaders were used to move the trash outside where it was able to be fully extinguished. No one was hurt, and fire units cleared the scene just after 5am the next morning. Structure Fire - Ada Place
Just after 7pm, SPVFD was dispatched to the 200 block of Ada Place for a fire in the attic. Deputy Chief 1 arrived on scene and confirmed heavy smoke pushing from the attic of a single-story residence, and the working fire signal was transmitted. Engine 5 arrived on scene, where the crew advanced a 1 3/4" handline into the attic to knock down and extinguish the fire. Truck 7 arrived shortly thereafter and began to vent the attic area. Due to the quick suppression and containment of the fire, most of the structure was spared from serious damage. Firefighters remained on scene for over two hours due to extensive overhaul and ventilation. No injuries were reported. Plainfield Fire stood by in our quarters. Structure Fire - Watchung Avenue, North Plainfield
At 2:18pm, SPVFD was requested for mutual aid by the Borough of North Plainfield for a structure fire on Watchung Avenue. Engine 6 responded and assisted with fire suppression and overhaul. Photo credit to Eddie Pfeifer.

MVA - Hamilton Boulevard near South Clinton Avenue
At 10:16pm, firefighters responded to Hamilton Boulevard in front of the Woodspring Suites for a vehicle that struck a utility pole. Deputy Chief 1 arrived on scene and found a single vehicle that struck and snapped the utility pole. Engine 5 soon arrived and disconnected the vehicle battery and Rescue 1 provided scene lighting.

Structure Fire - Fernwood Drive, Piscataway
Just after Midnight, SPVFD was requested into the Arbor section of Piscataway for a second-alarm structure fire on Fernwood Drive. Engine 6 responded and stood by as the Rapid Intervention Team. SPVFD firefighters cleared around 2am.

Two Fires in Three Hours
At 10:41am, firefighters responded to the 500 block of Harrison Avenue for a reported motorcycle on fire. Fire Official Abbruzzese arrived on scene and clarified that it was an ATV on fire in the backyard. Deputy Chief 1 arrived and established command. Engine 5 arrived on scene and firefighters used an 1 3/4” line to extinguish the fire. Engine 6 provided additinal manpower. Deputy Chief DelNegro in command.
Less than three hours later, at 1:27pm, firefighters were called to the 200 block of Van Fleet Avenue for a reported house fire. While in route Dispatch notified responding units they were receiving multiple calls. Fire Official Abbruzzese arrived on scene and confirmed the working structure fire. The working fire signal was transmitted. Engine 5 arrived on scene and firefighters used a 1 3/4” line to extinguish the bulk of the fire on the exterior of the D side. Firefighters pulled a back up 1 3/4” line to the garage area. Additional firefighters made entry into the residence to check for any extension while Truck 7 set up and checked the side and roof area of the garage. Plainfield Engine 3 was assigned as RIT.
